The Reason for Living

Joni Eareckson Tada has been a quadriplegic all of her adult life because of a diving accident. She’s had tremendous influence through her writing, speaking, and art as she has lived triumphantly with her handicap. She is now 60 years old and has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

It’s amazing how God has used Joni to inspire thousands of people, and all from a wheelchair! Now she’s making the medical rounds dealing with her cancer. How is God using her in all of the trips to the doctors and for medical tests? This is what she said in an interview: “Every x-ray technician, every nurse, every doctor’s secretary, every clinician, every person I meet in nuclear medicine and at the MRI – it’s amazing how many opportunities I’ve been given to see people hungry and thirsty for Christ. I’m just so amazed by people asking me, ‘How can you approach this breast cancer with such confidence in a God who allows it?’ And I’m being given the chance to answer.” (Christianity Today, Nov. 18, 2010, web)

God puts all kinds of people and opportunities around us to make Himself more real in this world. As pastor and author Francis Chan states in his book Crazy Love, “The point of your life is to point to Him.” (p. 44) It’s the best reason for which we can live!

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)
