Put Your Heart Into It!

I’m a fairly serious photographer and enjoy taking pictures of all kinds of things. One of my favorite subjects is hearts; one of my photographs of a heart is illustrating this article. February is heart month, not the cardiac variety but the emotional, conviction, passionate, love, and caring kind of heart. After all, it’s the month that celebrates Valentine’s Day. It’s a good time to focus on the challenge for us to put our heart into our faith in the Lord.

We’ve all seen examples of people who have not put their heart into what they’re doing. Most of us, if we’re honest, have to admit at having left the heart out of some things we’ve done!

I’m challenging myself and all of us to “put your heart into it” when it comes to our walk with the Lord and our serving Him both inside and outside His church. The words Jesus had for John to share with the church at Ephesus are words we need to grapple with as well. “You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love.” (Revelation 2:3-4)

We can “hang in there” and “go through the motions” in our walk with Christ, and our involvement in His church specifically, but fail to have our heart in it. It’s good on a regular basis to do a reality check and to ask ourselves if we still have a passion for the Lord and for serving the Lord. Are we doing the right things but without the right motive, the motive of love for the Lord?

It’s time to do a heart check-up. Let’s ask the Great Physician, “Give me a new heart!”

Think about all the Lord’s done for you and me. Think about how He’s given Himself to redeem us. Think about how He’s anxious to have us always walk with Him. Think about how He’s called us to work alongside Him to do His kingdom work. Think about how He’s looking forward to “wowing” us with the glories of heaven. Think about it! Think about it! Think about it! Let it lead us all to a change of heart. May it prompt us to put our heart into anything and everything He calls us to!
