The Power of Encouragement

EncouragementBrightSmallWe possess a tremendous power to do good in this world! We may doubt it sometimes, but we really do. No matter who we are and what our circumstances are we possess the amazing power of encouragement!

Life’s tough, there’s no getting around it. Most of us at one time or another and to one degree or another feel inadequate. We’re frequently inclined to give up, or at least coast. We all need someone to come alongside us and give us some encouragement. As a writer there have been times when I’ve wondered if anyone is really appreciating what I’ve written. Then, out of the blue, I get an e-mail, a message on facebook, or have a conversation with someone who expresses appreciation for my words. What an encouragement!

Yes, we all need encouragement, a little affirmation, a bit of praise, an expression of gratitude. But those within our sphere of influence need this too! So what we need to do is to forget for a moment our own need for encouragement and take the initiative to encourage someone else. It’s not all about us! What’s amazing is that when we push ourselves to encourage someone else we’re encouraged ourselves! We’re encouraged because we know we’re doing something good and worthwhile for another person, and often (not always) we see how it impacts that person in a positive way.

Be an encourager today!

Today, make that phone call, send that e-mail, message that person on facebook, send a note through the mail, start a conversation with that person who’s within earshot.

Today, praise the person for a quality or characteristic you admire in them. Say, “Thanks!” for something they’ve said or done. Listen, just listen, without giving advice or telling a story to top theirs. Do that sacrificial, often seemingly small, good deed. Give a hug, a thumbs up, or a pat on the back. Just BE THERE with the person. Pray for the person and tell them you did.

Be an encourager today!

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11)

Pastor David, thank you so much for always sharing His words with us, I am very encouraged and enlightened by them. I always read them and look forward to the next one in your journey wherever God is going to take you. Thinking back over the years of services in Toledo all the words you shared with us. I especially enjoy the Mexico pictures that yourself and Diane get to spend the priceless and precious with the family. Keep them coming Dave, I love and appreciate you dedication and love for the Lord.
